Britain’s biggest collection of toy robots is up for sale and is expected to fetch a cool £30,000.
Over 400 robots, amassed by an enthusiast who was given his first toy robot as a child and continued collecting until last year, are to be auctioned.
The toys are mainly from the 1960s and showcase the trend for ‘space-age’ technology of the time – those featuring batteries were still a relative novelty.

The swarm will go up for auction on Wednesday, October 30, at Auctioneum in Bristol, as reported by What’s The Jam.
Toy specialist, Lucy McCourt, said: “It’s an unbelievable collection.
“As we opened each box, we just kept finding more and more robots.
‘’Before long they had filled our sales room.
“It’s probably the biggest collection in the country and certainly the biggest collection I’ve seen.

“Most of them come from the golden age of space toys – the 1960s.
“They represent a time where we were fascinated by space travel, where humankind was just a few years away from landing on the moon.”
The collection features in excess of 400 robots which have been divided into 250 lots.

Lucy added: “It’s one of those collections.
“It will go down in history as something very special.
“Collections like this are a once-in-a-lifetime offering.
“I doubt we will ever see another quite like this again.”
Highlights from the collection include a rare Japanese Horikawa ‘Machine Robot’ that features an array of gears on its chest – still in full working order and complete in its original box.
That one alone is expected to fetch over £300.
Other robots from the same company also feature, many of them still in working order around 60 years after they were made.
