Rare Pokémon cards have sold for £105,000 after going under the hammer.

The kids trading game collectables went up for auction at the same time.

In total 168 lots were available for fans of the Pikachu-based cards.

Some buyers were snapping up sealed packs not knowing which ones they were going to get.

The card game was popular in school playgrounds in the late 90s and early 00s.

The top selling one was a Japanese Darkness, and to Light (Neo Destiny) 2001 opened a booster box.

It contained 30 sealed booster packs and was bought for £13,000.

The second biggest seller was a Japanese Town On No Map (Aquapolis) 2002 first edition e-series sealed booster box.

It had 40 booster packs and it was snapped up for £12,350, as reported on What’s The Jam.

A complete Pokémon 1st edition Base Set, with 102 cards sold for £10,400.

Bought for the same price was a Pokémon Fossil 1st edition sealed booster box.

The biggest price for one single card was £7,150 for a Pikachu 20th Anniversary one.

The Ewbank’s auction took place in Woking, Surrey on 16 May.

The auctioneers have been holding Pokémon auctions for three years which have raked in £1million.

Ewbank’s specialist Chris Fresson said: “This is a massive market with a vast number of dedicated collectors and a global following.

“Ewbank’s have led the charge in developing the auction side of this business, and it is astonishing just how many people pitch in to bid.

“Everyone wants to know what the antiques of the future are.

“Well, these are certainly among them.”
