A lottery winner scooped a £2.9million jackpot after thinking he’d just got £2,900.

Norman Stretch couldn’t find his reading glasses when he went to check his winning ticket.

He said: “I thought I’d won £2,900 (CAD 5,000).

“I called my friend to show him and he said ‘Check again with your glasses on, dummy.”

Norman added: “Sure enough, it was £2.9million (CAD 5m)!”

As a result, his pal pranked him so he would always be within arm’s reach of a pair of reading glasses.

Normal explained: “My buddy just bought me 10 new pairs of reading glasses.

“I keep finding them everywhere.

“I can’t stop laughing.”

The lucky winner – who comes from Central Alberta, Canada – admitted he is still getting his head around the huge windfall.

He told Western Canada Lottery Corporation officials: “I was sitting at a barbecue with a buddy, and we were trying to figure out how many rolls of toonies that would be.”

A toonie is a Canadian two-dollar coin.

When asked if he has any plans for his jackpot, he replied: “I just realised I’ve lived in Alberta my whole life and I’ve never been skiing.

“I think it’s time to try some new things.

“I might take up surfing!”

Norman won the seven-figure jackpot on the 13 April Lotto 6/49 draw, as reported by What’s The Jam.

He won by matching all six numbers: 11, 17, 21, 27, 41 and 44.
