Thrill-seekers can now soar just inches from the mighty Niagara Falls – thanks to a jaw-dropping new “flying theatre” ride.

The $25 million Niagara Takes Flight experience opens on Friday (29 Aug) and promises to whisk guests on a 56km aerial journey over the iconic waterfall.

Using custom-built drones, a 180-degree domed screen and state-of-the-art motion programming, the ride recreates the sensation of flight.

The six-month drone shoot captured the Niagara River corridor across all four seasons – even shifting from day to night – for a fully immersive adventure, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Ontario’s Tourism Minister, Stan Cho, said the Falls are a “Canadian icon” and the new attraction allows visitors to marvel at their beauty in a way “like never before”.

He added that the blend of high-tech visuals and storytelling will give families “lifelong memories” and a brand-new reason to visit Niagara.

Bob Gale, chairman of Niagara Parks, called it “a transformative moment” for the region.

He said the project – fully funded through the park’s own revenue – would boost tourism, support the local economy and cement its reputation as one of the “most spectacular parks in the world”.

He added: “Niagara Takes Flight captures the essence of our natural and cultural heritage – and we’re proud to finally share it with guests.”
