A Vinted shopper was left disgusted when his latest bargain arrived packaged inside a greasy chicken burger box – complete with crumbs still inside.
Joseph Grech, from Cardiff, had been excited to receive a copy of Sonic & Mario at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which he’d snapped up for £9 on the popular resale app.
But four days after placing the order, the 24-year-old picked it up from an InPost locker and was horrified to discover it had been stuffed inside a folded cardboard box that once held two chicken quarter-pounder burgers.

The box – still sticky with residue – was sealed up with tape and even contained leftover crumbs from its previous meal.
While the game itself was well-protected and in working order, Joseph says the bizarre choice of packaging left him questioning some sellers’ standards.
“Picking it up, I was quite disgusted,” he told What’s The Jam.
“It’s not really how you package an item, regardless of what the item actually is.
“The Sellotape boxes were folded in half, and inside was a quarter-pounder chicken box, which had real food in it.

“To be honest, I should’ve worn gloves before opening the box, as there were still crumbs inside. I also made sure to clean the item extensively afterwards.”
Joseph, who resells items for profit, said he regularly reuses packaging himself – but draws the line at containers that have been in direct contact with food.
And it’s not the first strange experience he’s had on Vinted. On another occasion, a game arrived without the actual disc inside, with the seller insisting it must have been stolen in the post.

But the unusual delivery hasn’t put him off ordering from the platform – admitting there’s still plenty of money to be made if you can get past the occasional bad experience.
The reseller, who posts about his retro game finds on his YouTube channel @toffeegames, said: “To be frank, I’ve experienced things like this before, and usually the seller offers a parcel refund.
“I will be honest – it was well protected and arrived safely. Other things have happened too; I’ve been sent a game without the actual disc inside the case.
“The seller tried saying the postman stole it. I made a video about this on my YouTube.
“Vinted is about recycling, but not recycling food waste. I often reuse packaging, but not this.
“It hasn’t put me off Vinted as there’s plenty of money to make – you’ve just got to get through the bad to find the good.”
