Scientist Rosie Moore has said that the ‘world’s hottest boffin’ tag doesn’t bother her despite her “career being turned into clickbait.”

The intrepid geoscientist mainly works with dangerous reptiles, poisonous toads and marine predators.

She also moonlights as an Instagram influencer with 197,000 dedicated followers.

She likes to post daring images of her wrestling alligators and diving with predatory sharks.

She said she wanted to discuss the “insane” number of news articles that have referred to her as ‘the world’s hottest scientist’ in the last two years.

She told What’s the Jam that her profile “really blew up” when she appeared in a viral Instagram video of an alligator being pulled out of a python’s stomach.

The geoscientist – who specialises in human-environmental interactions and spatial technology – said she “cried” when she first heard the tag, but then came to appreciate it.

Moore said people would ask her “how do you feel about your scientific career being turned into clickbait?”

“The first year this was going on, I didn’t really share any of these ‘world’s hottest scientist’ articles.”

She explained: “I didn’t want people to have that perception of me, especially as I had a lot of serious researchers following me.

“I thought it’d ruin my career.

“When the first ‘world’s hottest’ headline came out, I cried.

“I thought they were interviewing me on something serious.

“It’s a clicky tabloid thing to call me the ‘world’s hottest scientist’.

“But it completely changed my career and the course of everything.”

After several young girls wrote to her to tell her that they admire her work, she said she “learned to just lean into” the tag.

She explained that it helps to “make science hot” and therefore “appeal to young girls”.

Moore added: “It’s also given me this platform to advocate for animals that people don’t like, like sharks.”

Her video has been viewed 185,000 times on her Instagram page.

One follower commented: “As a father of a 7yo beautiful and intelligent girl, I shared your page with her and she is in love with you.”

Cameron said: “We need more people like you showing that women can be attractive and recognised for their work.”

Tawny wrote: “I find you fascinating and inspirational.

“The fact that you’re gorgeous is just a bonus for your platform. Brava Queen!”

Gabriella remarked: “I absolutely love your perspective on this, science itself IS hot and supporting conservation is beautiful!”

Alicia commented: “I saw the video where you explained your hobbies. I was like, wow.

“Brave, beauty and brains.

“You are the world’s sexiest scientist, what you do is amazing.”
