A road legal McLaren F1 supercar once owned by the Brunei Royal Family has sold for £19m.

This 1994 supercar has become one of the most expensive motor sales of all time.

This one of just 64 road specification examples ever built is now the 13th most expensive car ever.

It was snapped up for an eye-watering sum of £19,004,454.

The eye-catching ride was delivered brand new to Brunei royalty before being exported to the UK.

The F1 is kitted out with a 6,064-cc BMW V-12 engine that possesses 627 brake horsepower.

The ride has a blistering top speed of 242mph.

The vehicle was originally finished in a Titanium Yellow over black, as reported by Whats The Jam.

In 2007, the car was rebuilt by McLaren in Woking, switching to a Ibis white livery and equipped with a High-Downforce Kit and an LM-specification interior.

Before the colour change F1 legend Michael Schumacher signed the doors sill, in (12 Mar) 1996.

Two days after the former world champion retired from the Australian Grand Prix, his first race for Ferrari.

Following the paint change in 2007, seven-time world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton signed the left-hand-side luggage compartment.

The McLaren was sold at an auction hosted by RM Sotheby’s on Friday (5 Dec)

At the time of sale the car was located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

A spokesperson for RM Sotheby’s said: “Boasting Brunei provenance and later upgraded by McLaren with the fitment of a highly desirable High-Downforce Kit and LM-specification interior, chassis 014 still manages to stand proud even as an example of one of the greatest road car creations ever made.

“Well-known across the United States and online courtesy of being enjoyed on the public roads as the F1’s designers intended, this example would surely make for the headline addition to any car collection the world over.

“The opportunity to acquire chassis 014 is not to be missed.”

It is the 13th most expensive car ever sold.

It is some way of the priciest ever though – a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe bought for £107m in 2022.
