Darth Vader’s iconic lightsaber used in legendary movie scenes has been bought at auction for a cosmic £2.7m.
The iconic prop from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi movies went for the astronomical sum.
It became the most expensive item ever sold from the Star Wars films.

It was used on screen by Brit actor David Prowse, who played Vader in the original trilogy of films.
It is thought to be the only lightsaber from the first series ever to be auctioned.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the release of The Empire Strikes Back.
It surpassed the estimate, which was £2.6m.
The item was auctioned in Los Angeles, California, US by Propstore, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Boss, Brandon Alinger, said: “The result marks a landmark moment not just for Prop Store but for the entire world of film collecting.
“To see a Star Wars lightsaber – the symbol of one of cinema’s greatest sagas – become the highest-valued piece of the franchise ever sold at auction is incredibly special.
“It speaks to the enduring cultural power of Star Wars and the passion of fans and collectors who see these artefacts as touchstones of modern mythology.”

Other items sold at the auction included the bullwhip and belt that Harrison Ford used in Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which went for £353,192.
Also, Jean-Luc Picard’s Ressikan flute, which belonged to Patrick Stewart’s Star Trek: The Next Generation character, went for £300,000.
The Platform 9¾ sign from King’s Cross Station, where the Hogwarts Express departs in the Harry Potter films, sold for £103,000
And a Harry Potter wand from the Prisoner of Azkaban sold for £61,000.
