A classic 90s Ferrari, which has done less than one mile a day over the last 34 years, is set to sell for £2million.

The F40, with its iconic rectangular-shaped rear spoiler, boasts a top speed of 229mph and a 0-60mph of just 3.1 seconds.

It was the fastest road car in the world at the time and cost £300,000 brand-new.

As such, footy legend, Diego Maradona, opera singer, Luciano Pavarotti and F1 drivers, Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost had one.

But, this F40 has had just two careful owners over the past three-and-a-half decades.

It has done just 11,500 miles since it was made in 1990 and just 4,000 in the last 20 years.

It means it has done on average just 338 miles a year, which is 28 per month.

Broken down even further it is just six-and-a-half miles a week or just 0.92 miles a day.

The red supercar was also just one of 213 ever made to US-specification.

It is being sold in a private sale by RM Sotheby’s and is set to sell for £2million, which is £1.7million more than it was driven off the forecourt.

A spokesperson of the auctioneers said: “The gold standard of supercars for the 1980s, the Ferrari F40 took the automotive world to new heights, breaking the 200mph barrier in a road-legal automobile for the first time.

“The last model to be overseen by Enzo before his passing, the F40 represented the end of an era for the fabled manufacturer.

“But also served as an important reference for the spectacular cars that would follow in its footsteps: F50, Enzo, LaFerrari, and, most recently, the SP3 Daytona.

“Hotly desirable from the moment of its announcement, the model has always been in vogue since day one and is now considered an important piece of any Ferrari collection and a must-own for enthusiasts around the world.”

They added: “Falling approximately in the middle of F40 production, chassis number 86420 was built as one of 213 F40s designated for the US market, being completed by the factory in September of 1990.

“It was delivered to its first owner in Florida in December of that same year, according to Ferrari historian Marcel Massini.

“Having spent all of its life in the US, it was acquired by the current owner nearly twenty years ago from California and has lived with him in Texas ever since.

“The F40 has been driven approximately 4,000 miles in its current ownership, with total mileage showing at just under 11,500 miles from new.”

But the Ferrari may need a bit of TLC as it hasn’t been driven for a while, as reported by What’s The Jam.

“Remaining mostly in static storage in the last few years, as a result, the car will require service work before being driven and enjoyed at its fullest.

“The car is accompanied by service invoices on file showing a timing belt change in 2007 prior to the current owner’s acquisition, an oil change at Ferrari of Houston in 2010, and further work performed at a Houston-based specialist in 2016.

“Including a clutch replacement, refinishing of the seats, refresh of the air conditioning system, and a thorough detailing of the engine bay, amongst other works.

“Cherished during its current ownership, the F40 offered here represents numerous opportunities for its next custodian, whether it be enjoyment on the road, in Ferrari Club of America events, or as a significant piece of Ferrari’s history within a larger collection.”
