A brave man stepped in to play a mermaid at an aquarium show after his colleague fell sick.
The animal trainer said he was persuaded to take on the performance by his workmates.
Keen not to let the public down, he donned the mermaid costume and practised some simple movements.
He then plunged into the water.
Tourists were left stunned by the man’s unique performance, which involved flexing his muscles and wobbling his tummy
And as the swimmer pumped his fists and glided up and down the tank, audience members reached for their phones to film his admirable attempt.
The trainer admitted he was concerned that the audience would not appreciate his efforts because “mermaids are usually played by women”.
He even worried that he would “scare the kids to tears”.
But he said it all turned out pretty well in the end.
He told local media: “I didn’t expect the reaction to be quite so good.
“Many parents and children actually found it funny.”
The man was filmed at Zhonghe Dolphin Bay Ocean Park in Luoyang City located north-west of Shanghai in China.
But not everyone was happy with the show, as reported by What’s The Jam.
One local said: “You couldn’t pay me to watch this.”
“Give us back the normal mermaids,” demanded another.
