Some of the world’s most famous artworks have been appearing in the most unexpected places across a town.

Paintings by Van Gogh, Turner and Constable have appeared at bus stops, in shops and on the outside of buildings.

The Artscape trail includes 19 celebrated artworks from London’s National Gallery.

The masterpieces include Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, at the entrance to a post office, Rembrant’s Self Portrait at the Age of 34 on a street wall and Constable’s The Hay Wain at a bus stop.

All the reproductions, which are the same size as the originals, include replica frames for extra authenticity.

The life-size reproductions of £65 million worth of paintings have been hung in Bridgwater, Somerset.

The trail has been set up by community arts organisation Seed, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Director Scott O’Hara said the paintings, which are weather and graffiti-proof, are as close to the real thing as can be had.

He said the trail challenged the way people experience art by taking art out of the gallery and onto the street.

He hoped it would give everyone the chance to engage with art in a new way.

“We’ve got reproductions of about £65 million worth of paintings,” said Mr O’Hara.

“As well as surprising and delighting people in the middle of their everyday, we want the trail to provide the opportunity for people to seek out and enjoy these incredible treasures across the town.

“It is too extensive to take in on one visit, and we hope it may also take people to places in Bridgwater they may never have visited before.”

“It is wonderful that we can continue the partnership with the National Gallery and present
These reproductions in Bridgwater on an ongoing basis.

“The Gallery is also keen to connect schools all across Sedgemoor to the collection and creative opportunities through their programmes, and we are keen to help make that happen.

“No tickets needed, no queue in sight and no barriers between people and the power of great artwork.

“Whether you’re a long-time art lover or a curious passerby, Artscape offers everyone the opportunity to engage with art in a new and meaningful way.”
