Tourists warned after motor nearly gets swept out to sea

Tourists have been warned after a Mini was almost swept out to sea when parking on the beach.

The motor was left unattended on a beach carpark when a spring tide came rolling in.

The white vehicle can be seen beyond the tide line, which caused the driver quite an embarrassing moment.

The Mini was spotted by rangers at Polzeath Beach, North Cornwall, on Bank Holiday Monday (26 May), as reported by What’s The Jam.

The waves from the tide can be seen splashing up against the bumper while engulfing the front wheels.

“If you drive over seaweed to get to your parking space, consider how the seaweed might have been delivered,” the Polzeath Beach Ranger Service wrote.

Andy Stewart, from the organisation, said: “With our help, the owner of the car drove away safely just a few minutes after the video was taken.

“On this occasion, the tide was at its highest that day, but there are higher spring tides.

“Many things affect the height of the tide including the sun and moon phases, wind, waves, and atmospheric pressure.

“As with all coastal areas, there are risks associated with tides, weather, and landscape and like all tourist destinations we encourage visitors to be aware of location related risks.

“We do what we can to facilitate a safe and enjoyable visit, but also encourage visitors to be aware of inherent risks associated with coastal areas.”

Locals were left in stitches by the footage.

Sarah said: “Every single year without fail, muppets.”

Judith added: “I’m guessing that drivers judge the parking area by the stone perimeter and don’t see the seaweed line.”

Tim said: “Every year some Rupert or Mungo give us all a good laugh.”

Claire added: “Unfortunately people on holiday leave their brains at home.”

Mara said: “You know when it’s tourist season when you see tide swallowing a car on the beach.”
