An extremely rare sleeve cover of the Nirvana album Nevermind has sold for over £18,000.

All three band members of the iconic band signed the LP after a 700-person gig at the Bierkeller, in Bristol, in 1991 before they hit global stardom.

It was autographed for a local fan by the late lead singer Kurt Cobain, drummer and now Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic.

After being stored for more than 30 years in a loft, the sleeve went under the hammer at Wessex Auction Rooms in Wiltshire on Wednesday (16 April), as reported by What’s The Jam.

Ahead of the sale, auctioneer Martin Hughes said: “I am extremely excited to have such an important part of musical history included in our auction.

“Full sets of Nirvana signatures from this period are extremely rare and to have them signed so perfectly on the sleeve of the most iconic album is a collector’s dream.

“As a Bristol man myself the local connection is also exciting for me.

“That Bristol Bierkeller show is the stuff of legend.

“I have known the vendor, a well-known local rock and metal DJ for many years but have never been shown this mythical item he claimed to have in his loft and now here it is for the world to see.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see this sell for well over £10,000.

“It will attract major interest from around every corner of the globe.”
