Scores of Santas go scuba-diving in chilly lake

Scores of swimming Santas have braved chilly temperatures for an annual scuba dive.

Around 50 people dressed as Father Christmas took to the water.

It is to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the armed forces charity, Help for Heroes.

The event has raised £52,000 since it started in 2007.

They all plunged into the 36-acre freshwater lake, in Radstock, Somerset, at once, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Organiser, Amy Stanton, said: “A big shout out to everyone that joined us.

“We’re full of joy and mince pies from what was a day full of Christmas cheer and more than a few chortles

“Every year diving clubs and individuals from across the country converge for a thoroughly festive and very silly scuba dive like no other.

“Seeing so many Santas waddling around the quayside in scuba diving gear is a truly surreal sight.

“A big thank you to the volunteers from both the RNLI and Help For Heroes charities that came along to support the event.

“Vobster Quay is normally a members-only site but for this event, every year, we throw open the gates and invite any, and all, qualified scuba divers to come along and join in the festive fun.

“It has become a statement fixture in the UK diving calendar.”

Operations manager, Tim Clements, said: “It’s a testament to the spirit of all the participants.
