A collection of dress designs for Princess Diana fetched more than £20,000 at auction.

They went for over five times the estimate when they went under the hammer.

The dresses were sketched by Emmy award-winning designer Jacqueline Mills in 1985.

The late princess was aged just 23 and not long after Prince Harry was born.

The auction was held by Ewbank’s in Woking, Surrey with 21 items included.

The collection went on sale 27 years since her death on 31 August 1997.

The dress was made up for Diana in a turquoise-blue silk chiffon fabric, embroidered with gold sequins.

“The collection chronicles the sojourn of a series of dress-design sketches and a two-piece toile – a design blueprint in calico cotton – between Jacqueline and Princess Diana and includes.

“Two original envelopes from Princess Diana, one dated 17th January 1985 with Buckingham Palace stamp and one handwritten ‘Jacqueline’ in Princess Diana’s handwriting.

“Accompanying original – i.e. not a copy – compliment slip / card – Buckingham Palace – from The Prince of Wales Office.

Twelve original dress-design ink and watercolour drawings on heavy watercolour paper, created exclusively for Diana by Jacqueline.

“There are fabric samples attached, and each sketch has been signed by Jacqueline – Three separate, smaller sketches of jackets were designed to coordinate with the dress should one be required.

“These design drawings would work well individually framed and displayed.”

It adds: “The dress was made up for Diana in a turquoise-blue silk chiffon fabric, embroidered with gold sequins.

“A sample of this fabric is attached to the sketch of the original design.

“The toile that was produced from Diana’s chosen design and which she later tried on for the fitting, has not been altered or washed since then.

“This was shortly after the birth of Prince Harry in September 1984.”

The estimate was between £4,000 and £6,000.

But it sold for £20,800, as reported on What’s The Jam.

The sale price was over five times the predicted one.

The condition report read: “All items are in very good condition.
