A luxury Christmas cake has gone on sale for a staggering £495.
The sumptuous, fruity panettone, a Christmas classic, is being flogged by upmarket department store Fortnum & Mason.
And while its price is mammoth, the festive treat weighs a whopping 22lbs (10kg).

Its description reads: “Imagine our classic panettone, scaled up to ten times its usual size.
“A showstopping dessert to enjoy with friends and family this Christmas, this delicious panettone comes seated in a charming Fortnum’s basket – complete with an Eau de Nil ribbon, of course.”
The retailer said it has been making the cake since 1882 with natural sourdough only.
The product description continues: “The dough undergoes a 48-hour double fermentation process.
“We enrich it with Australian raisins and candied oranges, and you’ll discover tiny black specks of Madagascar Bourbon vanilla inside.”

The cake also comes with the added bonus of being free from preservatives, semi-finished products, flavourings and vegetable fats.
But if £495 is completely out of your price range, you can purchase the same item in its standard weight of 900g for £50.
The luxury retailer is also selling triple chocolate and limoncello panettone for £50, although in slightly smaller sizes of 750 and 800g.
