A copy of the first-ever Spider-Man comic has sold for a staggering £3,900 at auction.

It is 4,020 times the 97p price when it went on sale 63 years ago.

The rare comic comes in a plastic container to keep it safe.

It was first published on 1 March 1961, as reported on What’s The Jam.

The first issue was written by Stan Lee, who has his name on the front cover of the magazine.

The Marvel comic only cost 12 cents in the US at the time.

This is equivalent to 97p in today’s money.

The comic book features a drawing of Spider-Man in his iconic costume.

The comic has a 2.5 CGC Universal Grade.

This scale is used as an “industry standard 10-point grading scale to evaluate collectables.”

A 2.5 grade means a “collectable that shows extensive evidence of handling with multiple moderate-to-major defects.”

The Amazing Spider-Man comic went under auction at Anderson & Garland in Newcastle.

It sold for a staggered £3,900 despite being in poor condition.

The Amazing Spider-Man issue No.3 also sold at the auction for £2,400.
