The giant face of a Neanderthal caveman has appeared “out of nowhere” at a beach beauty spot.
The 13ft image was spotted at the foot of a cliff.
It appeared to have been hand-carved into the rock – but it was formed entirely naturally.

Hans-Petter Bjørnestad saw the incredible face while he was out for a stroll in Sidmouth, Devon.
“It’s the Sidmouth beach Neanderthal,” he told What’s The Jam.

“He came out of nowhere and is close to a previous cliff fall.
“There are regular cliff falls at both ends of the beach.
“I spotted it just by chance while on a walk.

“I haven’t noticed it before and no one seems to have spotted it before either.
“I was there just at the right time with the shadow and light hitting its eyes perfectly.”
The cliffs at Sidmouth are known for their instability.

Mr Bjornestad, who is a regular visitor from Copenhagen, Denmark, photographed a landslip on the beach last year.
Locals were impressed by his latest find.
Chris Rogers said: “It’s like Devon’s version of one of the Easter Island statues.”

Yvonne Tuckwell added: “Now that’s some find. It’s amazing.”
And Richard Morris said: “Very impressive. I hope Alice Roberts gets to see him.”
