A customer at Tesco was left cheesed off after he spotted a block of Cathedral City cheddar in a security box.
The lump of lightly mature cheese cost just £3.85.
But it was put in the box to help prevent shoplifting amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Shopper, Alasdair Gibbs was shocked when he noticed it was the only set of cheese in the shop that was locked away.
The standard Cathedral City cheese, Tesco’s Finest Le Gruyere, Wensleydale and Manchego were also security box free.
The 28-year-old was shopping for lunch at Tesco Express on Kingsland Road, Dalston, when he made the shocking discovery.
Alasdair, a communications manager, told What’s The Jam: “I thought it was a shame they’d put the cheese in cheese jail.
“I also thought that this is quite a jarringly large tub to contain the cheese.
“There was no elegant way to balance the crate and my other shopping in my one free hand.
“Carrying around my large, clear tub of cheese to the checkout felt like showing off the worst-ever meal prep in Tupperware.
“I’ve learned a lot about the market for second-hand, presumably warm, cheese.
“As funny as an oversized security box is, some people are really desperate and struggling, and it shouldn’t be this way in the UK today.”
Members of the public were also left shocked and in stitches by the extremely large security box.
Tobi Frenzen said: “Flipping heck, it’s not even the good extra mature stuff.”
Nick added: “The real crime here is buying anything below extra mature.”
Thomas Cussons said: “The secret ingredient is crime.”
Graeme Scambler added: “I would simply leave my basket of goods and shop elsewhere.
“What a total joke.”
Debbie Laughton advised: “Shop somewhere else!”
Another stated: “I’d say this is acceptable, I spent nearly £20 on a couple blocks of cheese at the weekend just gone.
“Some blocks are more expensive than meat and they’re security tagged.”
Tesco has been approached for comment.
