A woman was left baffled when a Morrisons café employee reportedly said they had run out of bread – despite insisting the supermarket itself was visibly well stocked.

X user Tash wrote: “Mum just texted me, she went to Morrisons cafe for breakfast after shopping and was told they had run out of bread.

“She replied, ‘Your bread aisle, which I can see from here, is full of bread?’”

One person said: “Same here at a Sainsbury’s (when they had cafes), no milk for coffee/tea, luckily in the queue was the store manager who wanted a latte, he went ‘Jesus Christ’ when he heard what the staff said, stormed off to the aisles and came back with an armful of milk cartons.”

“That happened to me in a cafe once and there was a Sainsbury’s local shop next door. I went and bought a loaf of medium white sliced. Left it on the cafe counter and said it’s on me,” another viewer claimed.

Someone else commented: “Here in the southern part of the US there is a grocery store famous for its deli sandwiches. I was once told they couldn’t make my order because they were ‘out of bread’, at which point I offered to walk the 200 meters to their own bakery to fetch some.”

“Happened to me in Asda at the fresh pizza section. Was told they had run out of various salad toppings. They had aisles full of the same salad types 20 feet away,” another user said.

Someone else added: “Same with Tesco café, they’d run out of sausages. Said “can’t you just go downstairs to the shop and get some more?” But apparently, it doesn’t work like that…”

However, other users stated it “wouldn’t be the same bread”.

One person claimed: “I can answer this, used to work in a supermarket cafe (a long time ago now to be fair). Stock for cafe was ordered separately and we usually were not allowed to take stock from main store.”
