An American living in the UK has settled the “debate” on which country is hotter during summer.
Ibukun Oluremi, who also goes by her nickname Lola, lives in North Shields but is originally from Maryland.
The 31-year-old recently went on a trip back home and was instantly crushed by the “disgusting” temperatures as Britain deals with record-breaking heat.

Lola says it’s official – the US “win”.
She shared a video of the announcement on TikTok, where it has left viewers divided in a video that has over 95,000 views and nearly 4,500 likes.
“You guys, I literally just landed in New York from London,” said the senior operations associate while walking outdoors.
“The debate is over, guys, it’s hotter [in the US].
“It’s so hot, it’s disgusting.
“It’s hotter, they win.
“They f***ing win.”
The video then shifts as Lola appears to be inside.
She added: “But at last, we’re in a hotel and there’s an aircon, so instantly I feel so much better.”
Speaking to What’s The Jam, Lola, who has lived in the UK for five years, adds that while the US is technically hotter, she acknowledges the British struggle.
She said: “Sure, the US is hotter – that’s a fact.
“But I totally get why Brits are melting.
“You lot aren’t built for this!
“No AC, houses that trap heat like ovens, and the whole country panics when it hits 25°C.
“It’s like watching tea boil and scream at the same time.
“[After moving to the UK], I’ve struggled with the heat a lot more than I expected to.
“As I mentioned, not having AC in the house and not having ice cold water everywhere I go.”
TikTok users were quick to share their thoughts.
“We don’t wanna win. Take the heat back!” said one person.
Another viewer added: “The humidity hits different on the East Coast.”
Many US viewers pointed out that the South is even more humid and hot, so New York isn’t even comparable.
“Next time, flying into New Orleans, NYC is way survivable,” said Dennis.
Aquarius added: “Try Arizona at 12 in the afternoon during summer.”
One viewer said: “Lived 20 years in Florida. The UK is unbearable in summer. Was just in London and there was NOWHERE to cool down. Even tried a MUSEUM and it wasn’t cool. So much worse than Florida.”
Another person said, “ It’s the lack of areas to cool down in London. It’s just heat everywhere. Said as a born and bred Londoner still living in London.”
