A man was stunned to discover he’d saved a whopping £5,000 after religiously plonking £1 coins into a Coca-Cola bottle for four years.

Kyle Greenwood, from West Yorkshire, shared a video of himself emptying his money pot on TikTok, where it quickly gained over 1.6million views.

The 34-year-old said he started saving just as the pandemic hit and had no idea how much he’d managed to squirrel away.

“I thought I would use the money for a new car or a holiday but once I saw it building up I decided to use it to help buy mine and my partner’s first home,” the factory worker told What’s The Jam.

“I stayed disciplined throughout, even though it was hard.

“I thought about dipping into it many times but fought against it once I set my sights on using it to help buy a house.

“My grandad gave me the bottle and I made it my goal to try and fill it up.”

In the clip, aptly set to Abba’s Money, Money, Money, Kyle pours the coins onto his bed before shoving them into several carrier bags.

He then puts all the bags into one suitcase and heads out to his local NatWest.

He and his partner tried to guess how much the stash amounted to, with Kyle predicting £4,651 and his girlfriend Cat landing on £4,855.

But after painstakingly pouring multiple bags of coins into a counting machine, it came to a whopping £5,005.20.

Esmae joked: “Could just about buy a Freddo.”

Lilianna added: “I’d say theres at least £1 in there.”

Another user wrote: “Two or three holidays right there, nice.”

Thea commented: “Damn can I borrow one for trolley.”

The average deposit for a house in the UK is £22,500 according to Zoopla, but for Kyle, it’s a start.

He said: “My advice to anyone else would be to just start doing it.

“It’s easy to say we’re going to do something and then procrastinate on the idea.

“But start small and watch it grow.

“For me it all literally started with just a £1 coin.”
