A young woman was stunned to discover she has a secret talent as a ventriloquist – and has gone on to garner millions of views on TikTok with her unique skill.
Sophie Simpkins is able to speak and even sing without moving her mouth, leading to hilarious pranks at her workplace and while out in public.
Videos she shares online have racked up more than 12 million views each, with the 24-year-old regularly going viral with the talent she discovered accidentally when watching the Graham Norton Show.
Singer Jessie J appeared on the show back in 2015, showing off that she could sing with her mouth closed and, when Sophie attempted to mimic her, she was stunned to find she could naturally do it too.
“It came naturally,” Sophie, an estate agent based in Swindon, told What’s The Jam.
Now, she often shares clips of her hidden skill by either singing with her mouth closed and face neutral, or talking while keeping her face straight, before mouthing the words – leading to a ‘delayed speech’ effect.
It’s something Sophie does in public, too, including while at the supermarket and even at work.
She said: “I quite often do it and surprise people in shops.
“People find it hilarious or just look confused.
“It’s one of the first things I did when starting a new job too – what an ice breaker!”
While Sophie only started properly practising two years ago, she has proven incredibly gifted at the strange skill, and hopes to showcase her talent live on television in the future.
