An urban explorer has rewinded time after finding a VHS store that he claims has been abandoned for two decades.
Bretton Barry was on a road trip when he stumbled across the video rental shop, which was at its height of popularity in the 90s and early 00s – before the days of streaming services.
Reliving life in true Y2K fashion, he shot a film of his own to share the haunting scene with his followers on Instagram.

He believes the owner died long ago, with the store a time capsule of a lost era.
“Abandoned video store[s] are incredibly rare,” Bretton told What’s The Jam.
“The [visit] was actually never planned.
“We were on a road trip for another spot and saw it driving on rural back roads in North Carolina.
“My friend pointed it out [after] he saw tons of books and antiques piled up against the window and we stopped to check it out.

“I believe it was abandoned in the early 2000s, maybe earlier because there were no DVDs inside, just VHS movies.
“[They] were amazingly kept in time and super rare.”
Bretton found racks and racks of old videos, stacked tightly in shelving units, alongside cups and clocks lining the walls.

He also stumbled across an antique shop inside the store, left behind from the previous shop owners.
He said: “There was also a huge antique collection including old hunting knives and fishing poles.
“There was even an adult video section but I didn’t want to take any pictures of it.”
Bretton has investigated everything from deserted power plants to synagogues, sharing his adventures with thousands of fans online.
His latest clip received 64,000 views (@urbex .ventures).
Many fans likened the exploration to a horror movie in its own right.
One user said: “This reminds me of a horror movie about 2 brothers that inherited their father’s video store when he died.”
“Hard to see others live my dreams,” said another person.
“This is awesome,” added someone else.
Another person said: “This may be one of, if not the, coolest abandoned places clips l’ve seen. would love to scope the place out!”
“Damn I would looove to browse” added someone else.
