A dad has spent four hours baking 340 Yorkshire puddings in a bid to create the ultimate Halloween costume for his kids.

James Paley has given Aunt Bessie a run for her money.

The dad-of-two, 45, from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, came up with the costume idea after basing it on a superhero he created with his kids.

His sons, Bobby, 19, and Aaron, 13, used to love talking about the adventures of the must-have roast dinner addition; Yorkshire Pudding Boy.

Now, he’s bringing him to life just in time for Halloween; spending four hours and using over 100 eggs to bake 340 of them to fashion the one-of-a-kind costume.

And it’s gone viral, with one clip racking up 2.9m views and over 407,000 likes.

“Cost-wise, I’ve spent a fair pound on it,” the restaurant manager told What’s The Jam.

“Using the well-used Paley family recipe needed to make a mix of large and smaller Yorkshires, plus the giant flat ones to make chest plates takes about four hours.

“I build up a stockpile [to create the costumes] just in case any break – but I varnish it to prevent this and spoiling.

“Both the boys have used it over the years for Halloween costumes.

“My youngest, Aaron, is the one currently wearing the outfit.

“He didn’t need any encouragement, as his older brother had been a Yorkshire Pudding Boy before and he wanted to get involved.”

To put on the costume, a hole is created in each pudding, before they are threaded on carefully one-by-one.

In the viral clip, the dad begins by saying: “Using Doctor Frankenstein as my role model, I’ve created a monster.”

The camera then pans across the floor, as a body covered head-to-toe in Yorkshire puddings is shown.

James continues: “A monster so large, so tasty, no amount of gravy could contain this beast.”

Aaron giggles behind the large, fluffy (and delicious) mask, as his dad says: “This is Yorkshire Pudding Boy.”

Users have flocked to the comments to share their reactions.

“I’m impressed but a bit gutted at how much Yorkshire pudding has gone to waste,” Leanne said, to which James replied: “Who said it went to waste lol.”

Another user added: “The muffin man has been quiet since this dropped.”

“My unemployed friend on a Wednesday,” Jo commented.

Chris added: “Dads on their day off whilst mum’s gone out.”

And even popular brands chimed in.

Lidl said: “Aunt Bessie is shaking.”

“You win Halloween this year,” VOXI Mobile added.

Nissan UK commented: “When you let the intrusive thoughts in.”

James, who says on a scale of one to 10, his love for Yorkshire puddings is at an 11, decided to share the bizarre creation on social media after sharing it in his work’s group chat.

And the reaction has been “incredible”.

He added: “My eldest son is at university and his housemates were showing him unaware that it’s him.

“Friends and family have been great, they think it’s hilarious.

“My mum can’t grasp the whole TikTok thing, but it blows her mind that over three million people have watched us faffing around.

“I’ll be very disappointed if there aren’t a few of these floating around at Halloween.”
