Ghost hunters were left freaked out after hearing creepy laughing and spooky footsteps in an old mental asylum.

The experience was so bad that one of the ghoul experts was left feeling so ill he had to leave the derelict building.

Tony Ferguson led the team into the old Ridge Lea Asylum, and they rigged up cameras and equipment to capture paranormal activity.

They also saw dark shadows and heard unexplained voices as they carried out their investigation.

Tony, 40 – a personal trainer by day – has been hunting ghosts for 16 years.

He said: “We were blown away by what we caught on camera.

“We’d heard many reports of strange goings on in the building.

“We have always wanted to investigate a hospital and asylum, so it was incredible.

“The building from the outside was very intimidating, and once we stepped inside, we did not feel alone.

“This was confirmed whilst setting up the cameras and when we reviewed our footage.

“When we started to call out, we started hearing disembodied voices, which were captured on camera.

“Yet everyone was in the shot, and it was none of us; we heard footsteps in the room with us.

“Strangely enough, when we were walking around with all of the debris on the floor, it made a crunching sound, but the footsteps we heard sounded like they were on a smooth surface.”

Tony, of Lymington, Hants, went with Jon and Lindsay from Exploring the Afterlife and Simon from GS Simon Exploring with Ghosts.

He also told What’s The Jam: “Jon saw a dark shadow figure walk down the corridor past the room we were in, seconds before that I said I could hear a female talking, and this has also come out of the camera.

“Later in the evening, Jon felt very unwell to the point where he had to leave the room, and at that time, we heard creepy laughing in the room with us.

“We had a lot of malfunctions with our cameras. Jon and Simon’s camera kept switching off and freezing; this has not happened with their cameras before.

“Overall, there were many things that we cannot explain that we caught on camera.

“It is very sad to see the poor condition of the building now.

“On the paranormal side, we were not disappointed with what we experienced.”

The asylum near Lancaster, Lancs, was established in 1808.

It faced a decline in the 1980s, but officially closed in 2016.

In July, Tony and his team were left spooked after saying a ghost lobbed rocks at them at Snuff Mills in Bristol.
