An influencer who couldn’t stand sleeping next to her snoring hubby has now got herself a separate bedroom – and says it’s improved their marriage.
Viyan Stanko, who has 86,000 followers, recently took to TikTok to announce her ‘sleep divorce’ from her partner.
The 39-year-old struggled to cope with the sounds her other half would make at night and he also prefers to keep the windows open to kip in a cooler space.

Discussing the issue with her husband, Jeff, 47, the pair decided it was time to call it quits… on their sleeping arrangement.
“After our first daughter was born, we definitely went through a lot adjusting to not sleeping and having to care for a newborn,” Viyan, an an elementary school principal from San Diego, California, told What’s The Jam.
“My husband would also be snoring and it made falling back asleep very difficult.
“If I don’t sleep well, I will be drained the next day.
“I feel nauseous from not sleeping and all I can think about is sleeping.
“I sometimes feel a lot of resentment and anger.
“We were sleep deprived and moody, and it was not good.
“Our relationship has not been impacted [by our decision to have separate bedrooms] – it’s definitely improved because of this.”
Each night, the couple still spend quality time together and after putting the children to bed, Viyan will watch TV with her husband in his bedroom.
But once she is ready to sleep, she will then head back to her room downstairs.
The couple live in a three-bed house with their two daughters – the master bedroom is upstairs, while the two other rooms are on the ground floor.
At first, Viyan started sleeping in the guest bedroom to be closer to her daughters, in case they needed her.
She said: “That’s when I realised that I was sleeping a lot more comfortably, despite being woken up by my girls.
“Another factor that impacted this decision was that my husband wants a fan on him all night long and he wants the room to be freezing.
“I cannot sleep with the windows open or a fan blowing onto me.
“I need silence and maybe a sound machine.”
The couple, who met for the first time in December 2015, have no concerns about their set-up negatively affecting their marriage.
The mum said: “Now I feel a lot happier and definitely sleep better.
“I have less anxiety about my girls being far from me or on a different level of the house.
“My husband is happy because he can sleep in his arctic zone and not have me complaining about it!
“Not sleeping in the same room doesn’t affect our intimacy or relationship in any negative way.”
After sharing her video online, Viyan has received lots of comments from others sharing similar sleeping arrangements.
One person wrote: “I could not sleep on a different floor than my kids!”
JoJo commented: “Yep we sleep separate. I’m a LIGHT sleeper and he snores like a freight train.”
“My husband does the same exact thing and we sleep in separate beds! Thanks for normalising this,” added Jill.
A fourth viewer said: “My grandparents have slept in separate rooms forever! They’ll be married 40 yrs on 12/1!”
Amanda penned: “Any noise wakes me. It’s best for everyone if I sleep alone.”
