Michelle Foulia, a writer from North Wales, shared her unique wedding story, revealing how she spent a mere £73 on the whole affair.
Having met her future husband Andreas in Cyprus and fallen deeply in love, they decided to forego a traditional wedding and simply exchanged vows at the nearest registry office two years later.
Prioritizing their love over extravagance, they spent just £3 on Michelle’s dress, a summer find from a charity shop.
With no need for a photographer, fancy attire for Andreas, or flowers, their ceremony was swift and sweet, taking only an hour before they even returned to work.

“I chose a comfortable blue summer dress with little flowers on.” Meanwhile, her husband opted for a casual look, wearing jeans.
Their decision to forgo traditional wedding elements was evident, as Michelle explained, “There was no photographer, no wedding gown or suit, no hen night, no bachelors outing, nothing.”
Their minimalist approach extended to their choice of wedding bands, which only cost 70 euros for both, yet have stood the test of time.

Michelle emphasized their departure from traditional norms, stating, “Not one for tradition,” and described their spontaneous decision-making process, devoid of any grand gestures, such as proposals or diamond rings. She expressed her aversion to traditional proposals, asserting, “There was no romantic proposal, no diamond ring or kneeling on one knee,”
highlighting her preference for a more straightforward approach to commitment.
The decision to marry was a casual one for Michelle and her husband, as they discussed it over dinner one evening. Michelle recalled, “We were having dinner one evening when he just said ‘we should get married really, we’ve been living together, running a business together, we might as well get married’.”

In response, she nonchalantly agreed, saying, “Yes we should.” With no elaborate plans or announcements to their families, they simply booked the registry office and invited only her husband’s best friend and his wife as witnesses.
Despite the lack of personal decorations at the registry office, Michelle noted that they didn’t request or pay for any embellishments. Following the ceremony, they went back to work, meeting later for a celebratory dinner at their favorite restaurant.
Reflecting on their decision, Michelle expressed contentment with their choice, emphasizing that they never desired the extravagance of a traditional wedding.
She explained, “It was never about the ‘stuff’ or the fairy tale or the Hollywood movie fantasy for us.” For Michelle, the significance lay in the commitment they made to each other, rather than materialistic aspects.
She reiterated her disinterest in the traditional wedding imagery, stating, “I never fantasised about looking like some princess in a fancy gown so it was a no-brainer for me,” a sentiment shared by her husband.
Despite the simplicity of their wedding, Michelle and her husband have enjoyed 23 years of marriage and are proud parents to three children, Mihalis, Vangelis, and Areti.
Reflecting on their wedding experience, Michelle expressed profound satisfaction with their decision, describing it as “simple and deeply meaningful.”
Despite its minimal cost, she affirmed, “I’m pretty sure we must have had the cheapest wedding on record,” a fact that brings her genuine happiness.
Michelle emphasized that she harbors no regrets regarding their unconventional approach, recognizing the valuable lessons learned and the cherished memories created in even the simplest moments.
For Michelle and her husband, the essence of their union lies not in extravagance, but in the profound significance of their commitment to each other and the journey it has set them on.
She concluded, “To us, that’s what it’s all about.”
