Just when you thought you’d seen it all, a London Airbnb is offering the chance to sleep on mattresses on the floor in a shared room – for up to £22 a night.
The news follows just a week after another Airbnb – also in the capital – went viral for listing tents in a living room.
This latest bizarre listing shows three double mattresses crammed into a room that comes complete with a small workspace, curtains, and if you’re lucky, a duvet.
Failing that, judging by the pictures, you will at least be provided with a single pillow.
The stay is being described as “serene” in a “spacious” room.
It’s a few quid cheaper to stay in the week, at £20 a night, though this would still equate to around £600 a month.
A bargain in London, right?
It’s also worth noting that you might not even get a mattress to sleep on and could find yourself on a sofa.
The listing reads: “Forget your worries in this spacious and serene space, get a comfortable sofa or bed depending on availability.”
The rental is available to “males only” and comes with a bathroom, kitchen, wifi, and bizarrely, a high chair.
The shared room has had at least one guest who, seemingly against all odds, gave it five stars.
“Very friendly host. Was proactive about making improvements,” the guest wrote in November 2023.
The exact location of the property is revealed upon booking, but it is located between Willesden and Wembley Park.
Another Airbnb owner is offering a bit more privacy, pitching up “romantic” tents in their living room.
This bizarre stay has a set price of £68 a night but it varies by date and there are discounts available, which could see that price drop to £38 – a bargain £1,140 for a month’s stay (30 days).
For this, guests can enjoy a centrally located spot between London’s iconic Mayfair and Covent Garden.
Guests may have to share their sleeping quarters with other visitors though – with three tents visible in the photos.
Many previous guests seem quite impressed with the basic offering – with the property holding an average rating of 4.45 stars.
One guest wrote: “Not pretentious accommodation in a very central area, perfect for a short stay. Excellent communication with the host.”
However, another guest did note the problems that can arise from renting a tent in a room full of potential strangers.
Still giving their tent a three-star rating, they wrote: “Excellent location rooms/shower /tents small and noisy. I slept in a tent in the living room [and] suddenly other guests all came to eat.”
Meanwhile, online, people have shared other thoughts.
“Heading over to London next week for a few client meetings and new projects and was looking for accommodation on Airbnb, when this caught my eye,” wrote one person.
“I mean, props to them, they even put some ‘office space’ in there if you need to do a quick client call – all while sitting next to a snoring stranger who’s probably had one too many pints the night before!”
Someone else added: “Looking for a reasonable place to stay in London on Airbnb, I spotted this absolute bargain: a TENT in someone’s living room for £65 a night! Added extras: a shared TOILET and SINK. And they say that London is expensive…”
Another person seemed lost for words, simply saying: “Wtf.”
