A powerful street photography series capturing the world’s largest religious gathering has scooped first place in a major global contest.

The winners of AAP Magazine #52: Street have been revealed – with 25 striking images selected from entries across 15 countries.

Top prize went to Savadmon Avalachamveettil, from Ireland.

It was for MahaKumbh – World’s Largest Gathering, a vivid look at the crowds, colour and atmosphere of India’s vast pilgrimage, as reported by What’s The Jam.

A spokesperson for AAP Magazine said: “Street photography is about uncovering the extraordinary in the ordinary. These winning images capture the rhythm, humour and humanity of daily life.”

Second place was awarded to Jozef Macak, from Slovakia, for Tides of life, while David Masoko, from the Netherlands, took third with Dislocated Presences, exploring fragmented urban moments.

Other winning entries included City Veins by France Leclerc, United States, Midday Geometry by Bartosz Michalik, Poland and The Waiting Line by Danielle Goldstein, United States.

Also there was Crossroads by Pekka Välitalo, Finland and Underpass by Derry Ainsworth, United Kingdom.

All selected photographers will appear in the printed issue of AAP Magazine #52 Street, with the top three winners each receiving $1,000.
