A breathtaking portfolio devoted to trees has let to a snapper being crowned the world’s best in his field.

Joy Kachina scooped the coveted Photographer of the Year title at the Natural Landscape Photo Awards 2025.

A spokesperson for the awards said: “Great landscape photography has the power to transport us.

“To relive a moment in time or see a distant place through the photographer’s eyes.”

Joy, from Tasmania, Australia masterfully captured the trees textures, shapes and colours in glowing light, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Meanwhile, the Photograph of the Year prize went to Margrit Schwarz, from Switzerland, for her mesmerising shot Eye of the Canyon.

It is an abstract image of ancient Grand Canyon stone shaped by time and water.

Other winning entries included Salty Pearls by Ilan Shacham, Ice & Wind by Luis Vilariño, Snow Pit by Vojtěch Schmidt, Remnant of Time by Kenny Muir, and Unexpected by Louis Ouimet.

The contest, launched in 2021, has built a fierce reputation for authenticity.

It has strict rules banning AI fakery and overcooked composites, insisting instead on pure, natural depictions of the landscape.

The prize has already put Australia’s wilderness firmly in the spotlight, while winners also came from Israel, Spain, Czechia, Scotland and Canada.
