The king cobra was spotted in a small wooded area next to the school in Dali City in the southern Chinese province of Yunnan.
A fire department spokesperson said the snake had apparently been nesting there for a while and behaved aggressively.
They realised the king cobra was probably a mother protecting her clutch of eggs and called for backup.
Snake catchers arrived on the scene and noticed the feisty snake guarding a pile of fallen leaves.
After successfully catching the cobra, they found a nest with 50 eggs under the leaves.
The reptile and eggs were removed from the area to protect students attending the nearby primary school, as reported on What’s The Jam.
Multiple Locations in Yunnan Province have reported a high number of sightings of king cobras and other venomous snakes, with many invading farmhouses to prey on chickens.
