An abandoned dog found ‘crying’ and with a note attached calling it a “good puppy” has found a new home.

A five-month-old Cane Corso pitbull-mastiff was left outside of an animal shelter last week (7 May), with a note attached with her breed and date of birth, saying: “Good puppy. House broken. Don’t have a name.”

Staff at Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia, US, discovered her looking “as though she had been crying”.

The pup was named her Minerva and the shelter issued an appeal to find her a new home, reports What’s The Jam.

A spokesperson for the shelter wrote on Friday (10 May): “On the day Minerva was abandoned outside of our shelter, we literally had to wipe away the tears from her eyes.

“We have no doubt she was terrified, and we were heartbroken.

“But, today we turn the page for her. She will be available for adoption starting at noon.”

In a heartwarming turn of events, the puppy has found her forever home with new owners, with the appeal widely shared on social media.

The dog was snapped up within hours of being made available for adoption, and just three days after she was found at the shelter.

A spokesperson announced: “We are ending the day with the best news – Minerva was adopted!”

A picture of the pooch posing with her new owners was also shared, garnering hundreds of likes.

The pup’s story had left staff and social media users heartbroken.

A picture of her inside a cage with the note taped to it garnered thousands of views.

The shelter said at the time: “A sweet little pup was left outside our Philadelphia headquarters sometime between Tuesday evening and Wednesday Morning.

“She was tied to a pole, and alongside her was this note.

“When our staff found her, she appeared healthy but had discharge from her eyes that made her look as if she had been crying.

“Our hearts broke for her.

“She was so terrified. But she was safe with us now.

“At just five months old, this sweet girl has been abandoned by likely the only family she has known.

“And sadly, this is not a unique situation.

“We are seeing the frequency of dogs abandoned on our property rise.

“We are witnessing owner surrenders increasing.

“It may go without saying that adoptions have slowed down significantly.

“But our work continues.

“We are here to usher Minerva into the next stage of her life.

“The era where she will find her forever family, and be loved for the rest of her days.

“We need your help.

“We need it for Minerva, and we need it for every dog that is in our care.”
