The huge croc was seen standing upright on its hind legs as it looked for an opening.
The baffled animal continued probing along the length of the fence, but appeared to have trouble seeing the wire mesh.
The lost crocodile was spotted in the Mexican resort city of Cancun on Wednesday (12 Mar) evening
Locals spotted it trying to reach the mangrove area around Nichupte Lagoon from the city’s Tajamar boardwalk.
The clip was shared on X where it went viral with 75,000 views and dozens of comments, as reported by What’s The Jam.
One local said: “Poor baby, there should be wildlife patrols in the area to support these animals as we’re destroying everything.”
Lucia added: “If they know wildlife is living there, why did the erect the fence?”
Isabel remarked: “How sad to not be able to get home.”
The lagoon is a protected area to ensure the conservation of crocs and other species.
If encountering a croc in the city, the local authorities advise locals to keep a safe distance and avoid feeding them.
