A clever primate has fashioned a rope from rags to collect bananas from zoo-goers.
Footage shows how an orangutan balances on the edge of his enclosure while dangling a string onto the other side.
The rope is made up a number of rags, which he appears to have been tied together.

A delighted visitor rewards the animal for its inventive design by tying a banana to the end.
He then steps back, hinting to the primate that the fruit is ready to be pulled over.
The orangutan slowly drags the rag back across the fence.
He pries the banana through the metal grate before shoving it straight into his mouth.
Content with his meal, the orangutan looks pleased and swings about his enclosure.

The funny incident took place at Novosibirsk Zoo, Russia, last month, which is home to 11,000 animals, as reported by Whats the Jam.
In the wild, orangutans eat a variety of fruits and leaves from rainforest trees, but rarely encounter bananas because they are a domesticated fruit.
While exact orangutan population counts are always a challenge – estimates put current counts between 50,000-65,000 orangutans left in the wild, according to Orangutan Conservancy

The animals have lost over 80% of their habitat in the last 20 years, which is threatened by deforestation, palm oil plantations, illegal hunting and illegal pet trade.
