A caribou trapped in sea ice was rescued by two heroic fishermen after falling into freezing waters.
The frightened animal was submerged up to its head in the frozen water.
Shocking footage shows the animal struggling desperately, submerged up to its head, as it tried to escape the icy grip of the sea.

The animal appeared doomed until the fishermen arrived.
Using their boat as an icebreaker, they cleared a path through the ice, guiding the caribou back to shore and safety.
The incident happened off Port au Choix, Newfoundland, Canada.
Eyewitness Brandon Gould says despite time in the freezing water the caribou seemed fine.
“The ice only arrived a few days ago,” Brandon told, What’s The Jam.

“The caribou swim across in summer and walk across on the ice when its frozen.
“But this one fell through.
“It’s hard to say if it would have survived without help.

“It seemed to be struggling a lot.
“It may have been able to get out but it most likely would have died of exhaustion trying to get out.
“She seemed healthy enough after making it to land.”
