A safari took a frightening turn when a huge hippo charged at a boat full of people.

The terrifying clip shows the moment a group of travellers almost had a run-in with one of the deadliest mammals on earth.

Fred Kakande, captured the shocking footage of the massive animal making its way towards them.

The video, which went viral last week, has racked up a jaw-dropping 170,000 views and over 3,000 likes.

“Moments like this bring a mix of adrenaline, excitement, and respect for nature,” Fred told Whats The Jam.

“Wildlife encounters in the wild can be unpredictable, and seeing such a powerful animal react so quickly reminds everyone of the raw strength of nature.

“Hippos are known to be one of the most dangerous animals in Africa, especially in water, and even small movements can sometimes trigger a defensive reaction.”

The scary moment took place on the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda.

During a Pearl Pulse Safari tour, one of the guests observing a group of hippos raised their large camera lens in the animals’ direction.

The sudden movement triggered the animal, who mistook it for a threat – causing it to charge into the water.

Fortunately, the experienced tour guide calmly steered the boat clear of the pursuing hippo – who eventually gave up the chase.

“Our experienced guides understand animal behavior and ensure that guests enjoy incredible wildlife moments while maintaining safe and respectful distances.

“Boat safaris on the Kazinga Channel offer amazing opportunities to see hippos, elephants, crocodiles, and many bird species in their natural habitat.”

Viewers were left shocked by the footage.

One person said: “Holy sh*t that thing was moving.”

One other person added: “That’s actually pretty dangerous.”

Another person said: “Hippo was doing breast stroke.”

One person said: “Get off his property.”

One other person said: “Nothing wow about it.”
