A family of brown bears successfully catch salmon during a spot of fishing in a lake.

The daddy bear – named Lewis – showed off his prowess to his cubs.

He was seen lurking in the water before pouncing to get their dinner.

Brit photographer Stephen Dean snapped them at Crescent Lake in Lake Clark National Park, east of Anchorage, Alaska, US.

He was able to get within 20 metres of the amazing animals in a boat.

The 44-year-old had made the trip across the pond to witness the bears fishing.

Stephen, of Chalfont St Giles, Bucks, told What’s The Jam: “It’s really amazing, they are large powerful animals.

“They were so focused on catching salmon to fatten up that they did not really care that I was floating in a boat 20 metres or so from where they were fishing.

“It was a real privilege to be allowed into their world.

“Most of the images in the set are of the dominant bear on that stretch of the lake attempting to fish.

“He was called Lewis and his technique was to scan the water from the shore or the shallows for a fish to swim close enough and then he would pounce and try to catch one.

“I witnessed him catch a fish a couple of times.

“Bears can be dangerous if they are not shown respect, so it would be to give them space and not surprise them.

“This particular trip was a guided experience and I was on a boat a sufficient distance from the bears.

“Therefore, the potential risk to me was very low.

“Having behaved appropriately it would then just be a case of enjoying the spectacle.”
