A woman has gone viral after clapping back at trolls who insist she needs to “make more effort” with her appearance – as her husband is ripped.

Alicia Mccarvell has been with her husband Scott for more than 18 years, and he often appears on her popular TikTok page, which boasts six million followers.

But the curvy content creator faces regular criticism for not following typical beauty standards and sporting a more chiselled physique, to ‘match’ Scott’s.

The 36-year-old took to the platform recently to respond after one follower questioned why she doesn’t want to “look her best for the love of her life” – insisting that “he puts in the effort, why can’t you?”.

It’s the latest in a string of similar comments that Alicia and Scott have been subject to, with others implying Alicia must be wealthy for Scott to have married her, and even saying he “doesn’t respect himself”.

“I feel sad when I read things like this because it truly does feel like people believe that one of our jobs as a partner is to ‘look socially acceptable’ to the world for our partner,” Alicia, from Halifax, Nova Scotia, told What’s The Jam.

“I have never once felt like my husband expected me to look a certain way, and I know that that is not the case for many women.

“Society’s trash beauty standards – that’s where a lot of these beliefs stem from.

“This idea that we have to look a certain way, to be respected, loved, or valuable is garbage.

“Also the idea that my husband’s relationship with his body, and his commitment to his fitness is ‘for me’ is so wildly incorrect.

“I couldn’t care less about how well he fits into some mad up beauty standards – his abs aren’t why I like him.”

Responding to the comments, Alicia shared a video clarifying that Scott’s love of fitness – nor his appearance – is as a result of her.

She said: “It doesn’t matter if I tell him he is the hottest person in the world – he couldn’t care less.

“It’s never been about me – it’s always been about him and for him.

“And I’m happy for him as I don’t ever want him to think my attraction to him or love for him is dependent on how he looks.”

She also pointed out that beauty standards have been “created” and are “fake” – and will change.

She added: “For you to assume that I don’t already look my best for the love of my life, or for you to assume that it even matters to either of us, is the part that makes me feel sad for people like you.”

Alicia’s response went viral, garnering more than two million views, and her fans were quick to defend her in the comments section.

One follower commented: “Why does ‘looking your best’ have to mean being slim?”

“Fatphobia is always disguised as “care”. Don’t you “care” that you don’t look the best? “I just care about your health” no, you’re fat phobic. Hope this helps!” another said.

Someone else wrote: “You can literally tell in all their videos that her husband is obsessed with her…like be so fr.”

“She IS looking her best …. she is so safe secure and mentally healthy. Not many have this look,” said another fan.

Another follower commented: “All these people with their comments about the way you look is disgusting and the only reason they’re doing it is because they probably want your husband lol they’re pathetic.”
