A woman has revealed that she got “married” for just £5 using a pink-coloured ‘wedding ATM’.

Delia Lazaroiu was stunned to discover she could theoretically save up to £30,000 in wedding costs by choosing the unconventional option of tying the knot at a cash machine.

The 27-year-old, from Manchester, said she was shocked by the price of a traditional wedding after getting engaged to partner Tom, 31, prompting her to look for a cheaper alternative.

She found one offered by the Camera Obscura & World of Illusions, a museum in Edinburgh, Scotland – costing just £5.

Delia also shared a clip of the “wedding”, which took place earlier this month (16 January), to Instagram – gathering over 328,000 views.

“It’s very simple, you go at the machine, tap your card, and then select your type of union,” Delia, a data analyst, told What’s The Jam.

“It gives you the options of straight, gay or best friends – you then type, in our case, the name of the groom and bride and a robotic voice will officiate the ceremony.

“You press again the buttons for ‘I do’ and the machine will issue you with two plastic wedding bands and a marriage certificate!

“And when I discovered that you can get married by the machine, I was buzzing.

“We had already planned our trip there and were looking for things to do and visit, but when I discovered this, it made it to the top of our list.

“We were so excited to do this cute thing as a way to celebrate our love.”

Delia couldn’t believe it at first, but said the day was everything they wanted it to be.

She explained: “Tucked in a corner behind the stairs, the ATM is very unassuming.

“But the props – bride veil, bouquet and high hat for the groom – make you do a double take!

“We kept on laughing because we had no idea what to expect!

“We’ve seen some videos but didn’t expect the machine to actually talk to us!

“I was also thinking if for this mock ceremony I get so flustered, what will I do at the real one?!

“But in all fairness, it felt pretty real, especially as we exchanged wedding bands.

“Exchanging the bands was funny as none of the rings were the right size at first, but their size was adjustable.

“Also extremely hilarious was trying to make our props fit: my veil kept on falling and the hat was too big for my partner.

“It was quite a sight for the people passing by, but we didn’t pay attention to anyone as we were so immersed in the experience!”

However, Delia and her partner of five years say they still plan to have a big fairytale wedding one day to make it legal.

She said: “We discussed many times about our actual wedding, which is unfortunately at the very end of our five-year plan.

“After buying a house and engagement, and this experience got us even more excited for the real thing.

“We kept looking at our wedding band and thinking ‘Wow, this is what being married must be like!’

“It also actually made us realise how expensive a real wedding is in the UK, and it got us thinking that eloping might be a genuinely appealing option!”

In the video, shared to social media, Delia can be seen holding a bouquet of flowers, wearing a veil and standing in front of the pink machine.

She then shows which buttons she pressed, typing in their names, and the two plastic rings.

Delia also reveals the mini marriage certificate at the end.

It has since gained 8,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

Justin said: “We had our destination wedding in Edinburgh… now we need to go back to do this.”
