A resourceful traveler has shared a clever method to bypass stringent airline hand luggage restrictions, managing to bring an extra bag on board for just £1.55.

Lisa Brown claims to have saved “hundreds of pounds” on costly airline baggage fees using her savvy trick.

The 28-year-old thrifty traveler posted a video online, demonstrating her technique by purchasing a £1.45 bottle of water and a 10p carrier bag at the duty-free shop.

She then uses this bag to carry extra items, avoiding the need to pay for additional baggage.

Lisa’s video, which has garnered 2.9 million views and 89,400 comments, captures her journey through Stansted Airport before boarding a Ryanair flight to Lithuania. She checks in online and carries her additional items through security in a separate bag, transferring them into the airport shopping bag afterward.

Speaking to Luxury Travel Daily, Lisa from London explained: “Many people overlook the signs and are unaware of how to utilize this method to save money.

I’ve been doing it for years and have likely saved hundreds. The best part is not having to wait for my bag at the end. The cost of luggage can be quite high, on top of the flight price. I always check in online and have my extra items separated in a bag when going through security.

By checking in online, they only check your bags at the gate, making this method effective. Plus, you can save the bag for your next trip to save even more money. I’ve tried this hack at London Stansted Airport, London Luton, and Gatwick.”

In the video, she highlights a sign stating ‘take two bags on board,’ which indicates that one hand luggage and one airport shopping bag are permitted on the flight.

Lisa elaborates: “Don’t pay extra baggage fees. Here’s an airport secret they don’t want you to know. You can get additional luggage for £1.55. If you’re like me and have opted for a super cheap flight that only includes a personal item bag, this hack is for you.

Today, I’m bringing a bag larger than the allowed size, and I’m using my baggage trick to show you how it works. You go through duty-free, but don’t exit yet. Purchase the cheapest item in duty-free, currently this water, and get a bag for 10p.

Fill this bag with your extra luggage, and it’s time to board your flight. Yes, this hack is legal. One airport shopping bag is free. And that’s how you get extra luggage on low-cost airlines for £1.55.”

The video received numerous comments, with some viewers expressing gratitude for the tip, while others urged her to keep it a secret to avoid alerting airlines.

Louise Robbins commented: “I’ve been doing this for a long time. I save the bag and reuse it.”

Nick added: “Please stop spreading this before Ryanair catches on.”

Amanda Fowler suggested another tip: “The other hack is to pre-order your toiletries at Boots online and get them delivered to the airport. You get a bag and full-sized products at high street prices.”

Another viewer mentioned: “I do it for 10p, I just buy a bag from duty-free.”

Ryan shared his experience: “I just bring a reusable bag and open it up past duty-free. Done four flights with this and no issues.”

According to Ryanair’s website, fees for a 10kg check-in bag range from £11.99 to £35.99, while EasyJet charges start at £6.99 for hold luggage weighing up to 15kg.
