A woman has revealed she managed to dodge a whopping £3,600 cost when travelling overseas thanks to a simple travel hack.
Maddie Schofield visited Thailand for two weeks recently, hopping to remote island locations all while using her phone to stay in touch with friends and family.
But the 26-year-old managed to avoid shelling out thousands of pounds in a surprise phone bill by taking a precaution ahead of time – to the tune of just £9.50.

“I purchased an esim from Airalo for 10GB of data for Thailand – this lasted me the entire duration of my two-week trip, and it cost me £9.50,” Maddie, from Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, shared with What’s The Jam.
“It was so quick and easy to set up.
“I landed in Bangkok, connected to the airport Wi-Fi and headed to the Airalo app to purchase and activate my eSIM.
“I was surprised at how quickly it was.
“The process took around 10 minutes for it to be fully installed.

“I was connected and on 5G before leaving the airport.”
Working out the costs she would have otherwise faced, Maddie found it would have cost her £0.36 per MB of data – a total cost of £3,950.50 when she tallied up the full 10GB she had used.
She added: “I travelled to Bangkok, Koh Samui and Krabi and the eSIM worked perfectly across all destinations, even during boat trips to smaller islands which I was very surprised by!

“It was also often quicker and better than the hotel Wi-Fi, so I often disconnected from it and relied just on the eSIM.
“Having immediate and easy access to internet-reliant apps like maps meant I felt safe and secure in and around where I was going.
“I also used taxi apps like Grab to travel around Thailand cheaply, easily and safely, and I wouldn’t have been able to use this as easily without the eSIM as I would’ve needed Wi-Fi.”
