Now, Barbie, currently based in Turin, Italy, has revealed the best way to gear up for a flight – from handling delays to crowded airports.
PLAN AHEAD AND ARRIVE EARLY
During the summer, airports are typically busier than usual, and hotter.
“Start by planning your transportation to the airport in advance and consider traffic and any unforeseen delays,” Barbie told What’s The Jam.
“There might be long queues to enter the airport, for check-in and for every step, before boarding the aeroplane.

“To avoid stress, make sure you arrive at the airport at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight.
“The more time you have, the smoother your way through the airport will be.”
BE STRATEGIC WITH SECURITY AND BOARDING

To speed up the security process, Barbie recommends packing essentials in a carry-on bag and placing them in an easily accessible spot.
She said: “Remember liquids should be of 100ml or less.
“Wear clothing and shoes that are easy to remove and put back on.
“Try to avoid wearing boots, belts and metal accessories. Don’t be the one holding up the queue, please!
“You might have woken up really early, we know you’re tired, but try not to fall asleep at your boarding gate – you couldn’t imagine how many passengers miss their flight because of this!
“Additionally, don’t start queuing at the boarding gate before time.
“Let the gate agents work peacefully.”
USE TECHNOLOGY TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
She also advises making use of airline mobile apps.
She said: “This way you can check in online, receive flight status notifications, and download your boarding pass.
“Many airlines advise you to check in online before your trip. This will save you lots of time at the airport, and also money!
“Be aware that low-cost airlines charge extra if you do the check-in at the airport, so be smart and take care of your money.
“You can also use apps to track your luggage, find the best route to your gate, and discover food options at the airport.
“Many stores at the airport have special discounts if you download their app, and shopping at duty-free can earn you points to spend on your next purchase.”
PACK SMART
Packing efficiently can save you a lot of time and hassle.
She said: “Make a list to ensure you don’t forget anything important and consider taking only a carry-on to avoid long lines at the check-in counter and waiting at baggage claim.
“Don’t forget to pack a change of clothes in your carry-on in case your checked luggage gets lost.”
BE PREPARED FOR ANY CHANGES
Barbie said: “Any adventure may arise.
“Delays are common during peak travel season.
“Bring entertainment like books, downloaded movies, or music.
“Also, have snacks and a reusable water bottle handy.
“Keep a positive attitude and patience; sometimes a delay can be an opportunity to relax and enjoy a moment of quiet.
“But what happens if your flight is cancelled?
“Did you know that you might be given a nice amount of money, along with hotel accommodation, transport and food until you are reassigned to another flight?
“This summer will be crazy, so study your Passenger’s Rights before your next trip.”
Barbie claims by following these tips, you can minimise stress and make your air travel experience far more pleasant.
She added: “Safe travels, enjoy your vacation, and know your rights!”
