MI6 wants a tech geek to combat the threat of Artificial Intelligence ROBOTS.

Spooks are hiring an AI nerd to head up their research into them.

They will look into how they can threaten UK security.

Budding James Bonds will get a pay package of almost £56,000-a-year.

The job will be based at its London HQ – but part time and flexible working will be allowed.

Secret service bosses don’t expect applicants to be AI experts already.

But they will need to be good at “problem-solving” and be able to carry out research in an “agile way.”

Applications for the ‘AI Research Lead’ position close on 1 Aug.

The job advert reads:  “We’re MI6, also known as the Secret Intelligence Service.

“Our mission is to protect the security and economic wellbeing of the UK from overseas threats such as regional instability, terrorism, and cyber-attacks.

“Working across the globe and in close partnership with MI5 and GCHQ, we help the Government to counter these threats through the provision of secret intelligence.

“A role in MI6 will see you providing vital support to this work, within a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.”

It adds: “The Office of the Chief Scientific Advisor for National Security is a diverse team of scientists, engineers and programme professionals working to identify and understand how global Science and Technology will impact on the future business and mission of National Security.

“The role will involve acting as a technical authority on one or more of our AI and Data Science research theme areas.

“You will develop a technical strategy for the themes which will define the research programme.

“Research is undertaken by commercial suppliers and academia.

“You will provide technical leadership and oversight of the research. You will be supported by the rest of the team and guided by the Principal Scientist.

“You will provide technical leadership and direction regarding the development and application of AI and Data Science research through building relationships with end users and delivery partners to deliver research and knowledge that is clear and accessible.

“Engaging with stakeholders from across the business, gaining wider experience of how the business operates and its future requirements.

“Collaborating with other government departments and international partners to ensure that your research provides maximum impact.”

The job advert continues: “It is essential that you have a good engineering or scientific base, to degree level or equivalent qualifications or experience and an active interest and knowledge of AI and Data Science.

“AI and Data Science is an extensive area and we do not expect you to know everything.

But job hopefuls will be expected to display things like: “Ability to articulate recent AI and Data Science innovations that interest you, from both a technical perspective and in terms of potential applications.

“You’ll enjoy problem-solving and having a flexible approach to change.

“You’ll be independent and able to own your research area and develop an approach to its delivery.

“We are looking for a team player with a proven record of collaboration and knowledge sharing. You’ll invest the time to ensure that knowledge is shared through good administrative practice and active, collaborative team engagement.

“You’ll be able to carry out research in an agile way, using agile type reporting and flexible ways of working.”

The starting salary will be £52,960 plus £2,913 science and engineering skills allowance.

Other benefits include, 25 days holiday rising to 30 days after five years, interest-free season ticket loan, “excellent” pension scheme, cycle to work scheme, facilities such as a gym, restaurant and on-site coffee bars and paid parental and adoption leave.
