A basement flat available to rent has been compared to a “prison cell” and left viewers “lost for words” online – with a shower seen next to the bed, and no windows in the property.

The one-bedroom property in Bristol is advertised as for students only but comes with a hefty price tag of £1,550 a month.

Despite the large rent, the pad is pretty cramped, with no washing machine and limited counter space in the kitchen.

In the bedroom, things are even more dire with a shower seen crammed next to the bed – despite the room having no windows.

The only window to speak of is a tiny one in the stairwell, with the rest of the flat getting no natural light.

The listing was shared on Reddit, where viewers were horrified by the property.

One user commented: “No washing machine! £1550 pm and you’d have to go to the laundrette.”

Another viewer said: “When I said I like things hot and steamy in the bedroom, this is not what I meant.”

Someone else added: “WHAT THE ACTUAL F***G FK IS THAT?! Whoever put this up should be arrested, letting agent too.”

Another user said: “Even prison cells have a window (don’t they?).”

Another person commented: “That is absolutely outrageous. £1,550.00 per month for a tiny grotty little underground flat in Bristol. How on earth can any student possibly afford this? I don’t know why anyone would want to if they could somehow afford it. It’s completely insane. I’m ranting but I’m actually lost for words.”

“Can already smell the mould and damp in the bedroom caused by the condensation from a hot shower!” said one viewer.

However, the flat does have two saving graces – a prime location in central Bristol, based near bustling Park Street, and all bills are included in the monthly cost.

The listing on OpenRent reads: “A 1 bedroom fully furnished basement flat situated in a 4 storey townhouse.

“The flat consists of a bedroom with shower, newly fitted kitchen, living room and separate toilet.

“There is a window by the stairwell.

“There is no washing machine in the flat however there is a launderette 2 minutes walk away.

“All bills including water, electricity, gas, and internet are included in the monthly rental.”
