A medieval castle is for sale for just £38,000… but there is a catch.

Bizarrely, it’s advertised as a 1,300 sq m, three-bedroom property with a bathroom.

But photos of the property just show ruined walls.

The castle dates back to the 12 century making it around 900 years old.

It’s a five-minute drive from Monteagudo de las Vicarías, Spain.

The village has just 173 residents and lies near the road between Zaragoza and Madrid.

It’s part of Spain’s ‘Prettiest Pueblos’ association.

The castle is known as the Castillo de la Raya, which translates as Border Castle, or the Torre de Martín González — aka, Martín González Tower.

It straddles the border between the Castile & León and Aragon regions.

It’s listed on Spain’s heritage register.

The description on the Fotocasa website says the castle “comprises a keep tower measuring 10 metres in length, seven in width, and 15 in height, along with a walled enclosure featuring walls reaching up to seven metres in height, with an opening in the south wall spanning six metres in length.

“Additionally, in the centre of the walled enclosure, there is an opening in the ground that may have served as a cistern or for some other unknown purpose.”

The castle dates to the turn of the 13th century and is closely linked to King Alfonso VIII of Castile.

Its dominant styles are Gothic and proto-Gothic, but there are even Islamic remains on its walls.

It likely featured in the border wars between Aragon and Castile before the unification of Spain.

It is reportedly in danger of collapse.
