Rusty 57-year-old car that stood in barn for 34 years on sale for £35,000 thanks to its ‘incredibly rare’ untouched condition

A rusty 57-year-old car that stood in a barn for 34 years is on sale for £35,000.

The 1969 Jensen FF, which incredibly still has its original paintwork and interior, is one of less than 200 made.

It was ordered from new by its owner and put into storage when he died – so experts are amazed at its “untouched” condition.

The listing describes it as one of the most significant British GT cars of the 1960s, as reported by Whats The Jam.

It says: “One of only 195 Jensen FF Mk1 examples produced, the car has not turned a wheel since 1992, remaining stored in a dry, weather-tight garage for more than three decades.

“The car offered, chassis number 119/103, is remarkable not only for its rarity but also for its preservation and provenance.

“Ordered new in 1969 by its first and only driver, it remained in regular use until the early 1990s, when it was driven into storage following his death.

“Since then, it has stayed exactly as it was laid up, complete with its original paperwork, keys and handbooks.

“Never restored, repainted or modified, it survives today as an unusually honest and complete example.

“Although dusty from years of hibernation, the interior remains intact and original, while the engine bay is complete and clearly displays its matching numbers.

“Accompanying documentation includes the original sales invoice, green logbook and a file of Jensen service records, offering a clear picture of careful ownership prior to its long period off the road.

“While recommissioning will be required, Iconic Auctioneers believes the car – which has an estimate of £30,000 to £35,000 – represents a rare chance to return a significant Jensen to use or to preserve it as a reference example.

“Launched in 1966, the Jensen FF was a landmark model.

“Fitted with Ferguson Formula four-wheel drive and Dunlop Maxaret anti-lock braking, it was the first production performance car to feature both technologies.

“Powered by a 330bhp Chrysler V8, the FF combined pace with poise, earning widespread praise from the motoring press and securing Car magazine’s Car of the Year award in 1967.

“Its advanced specification and higher price limited sales when new, but today it stands as one of the most sought-after Jensens.”

Expert Joe Watts added: “This Jensen FF is one of those cars that reminds us why garage finds still matter.

“To see such an important model survive untouched for so long, with this level of provenance, is incredibly rare.”

It is being sold by Iconic Auctioneers on 21 February, at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry.
