The world’s tallest cow – who is playful like a puppy – is one inch taller than first thought.

Romeo the handsome Holstein steer hit the headlines in October as possibly being the tallest living cow in the world.

At the time, he was estimated to be 6ft 3ins tall, however he was found to be an inch taller during a recent official measuring event.

The current Guinness record-holder is a 6ft 1ins bull named Tommy based in Massachusetts, US.

However, Romeo’s carers have submitted his paperwork to Guinness World Records in the hope of surpassing Tommy’s record.

Romeo has lived at the Welcome Home Animal Sanctuary in Creswell, Oregon, also US, since he was just 10 days old.

A sanctuary spokesperson said: “We had an official Measuring Event to document and verify Romeo’s height.

“Romeo is officially 6ft, 4ins.

“The tallest steer on record, ever, according to Guinness, was 6ft 4ins.

“We’re pretty much in awe over these official results and are preparing the materials required by Guinness to have him recognised as the tallest steer.”

The centre is yet to receive official confirmation from Guinness regarding Romeo’s bid to be recognised as the world’s tallest cow.

When he was a small calf, volunteers rescued Romeo from a veal crate at a dairy and brought him back to their vegan farm sanctuary.

“He was rescued from a lady who went to a dairy and she saw all the calves from the crates and was able to secure the release of five of them,” said Misty Moore, founder at Welcome Home.

“Once she got them from that dairy, she contacted the sanctuary and we were able to take Romeo and Milo.”

The sanctuary said: “Despite his size, Romeo still runs and plays like a puppy.

“He’s a gentle giant who is sensitive, inquisitive, and incredibly intelligent.”

“Romeo eats a lot of food. In fact, he eats 100lbs of hay a day.”
