The dramatic collapse sent a huge cloud of dust into the air as tonnes of rock tumbled to the ground.

The massive landslide struck at 6:52pm on 22 August, with the cliff face giving way close to Petites Dalles beach in the commune of Saint Martin aux Buneaux, Normandy.

“It’s always a shock when this happens, even though we know the cliffs here are fragile,” one local told What’s The Jam.
“If you are walking near the coast, please keep to the marked paths and pay attention to warning signs.”
Cliff falls are common along the Seine-Maritime coastline, but residents said such incidents are unusual at this time of year.
Pictures taken afterwards show huge mounds of chalk piled high at the cliff base – a stark reminder of the constant erosion threatening the region’s famous white coastline.
