A pigeon that had been rescued from a chimney flew straight into a wall seconds after being released.

The marooned bird was found in the shaft of a house.

Chimney sweep trio Carl Wilson, 52, Steve Wilson, 49, and 48-year-old Chris Lamb plucked it out.

Chris gently let go of the bird who veered right into the direction of a house and crashed into the building.

“We were called by a customer who was having an intermittent soot fall which normally means there’s a bird trapped in the chimney,” Steve told What’s the Jam.

“We had to send our chimney rods and brushes up the chimney to gently coax the bird into the chimney opening and to safety.

“We wrapped the bird in a cloth sheet and took it outside.

“Then we fitted a cover to the chimney pot to prevent any more birds from falling in.

“They’re normally disorientated after being stuck in a dark chimney for a bit so don’t move straight away.

“This chap flew straight away and straight into a wall.”

The pigeon didn’t appear to be injured and eventually managed to fly away.

It happened in Crosby, near Liverpool yesterday (12 Jun).

Steve, of Wilsons Chimney Specialists, said: “His partner was waiting on another roof so thankfully after he hit the wall, he flew to her.

“The customer was a bird lover and was thrilled we got him out alive.”

Steve says the group rescue around between 10 and 20 birds including magpies, jackdaws, rooks and baby seagulls a week from chimneys.

One local said: “Wood pigeon, dumb as bricks and a pest species.”

Another person added: “Sorry for the bird, but it was unexpectedly funny.”

A third joked: “Now we know why he ended up inside the chimney.”

Another person said: “Like a prisoner on licence, wants to go back in the chimney for safety.”
